NSUOCO's premier clinical education provides extensive hands-on experience in patient care. The partnership with the Cherokee Nation provides state-of-the-art eye care to this under-served population. In preparing students to meet the vision care needs of the future, NSUOCO is recognized for utilizing the highest levels of new technology, including laser procedures. Annually, students, residents, and faculty experience more than 40,000 patient encounters.

Retina Clinic

The retina clinic provides retinal disease consultation and management for patients referred for further evaluation. This clinic is staffed by NSU faculty members with retinal disease emphasis. It is located within the Cherokee Nation Outpatient Health Center and receives referrals from all clinics within the NSU clinical system. This clinic often utilizes ancillary ocular imaging and other testing to accurately diagnose and manage the retinal disease presentations. Patients are often referred or comanaged with ophthalmology subspecialties outside this facility.  Students in year IV of their clinical education are available for assignment into this clinic.
