Vision Therapy
In our NSUOCO vision therapy clinic, we are training visual skills to optimize a patient’s visual system. We will evaluate, diagnose, manage and treat a variety of visual issues. Visual dysfunctions and conditions can lead to frustrations, poor school or work performance and confidence issues. With individualized therapy plans we can treat patients diagnosed with:
- Amblyopia
- Strabismus
- Unsteady or Eccentric Fixation
- Ocular motor dysfunction (saccades and pursuits)
- Binocular vision disorders (suppression, fusion and stereopsis)
- Vergence disorders (convergence and divergence training)
- Visual perception disorders
Through lenses and activities, we can isolate these visual skills and give our patients the visual opportunities or experiences to build and train these skills. The awareness and practice of these skills leads to the incorporation of these visual skills into everyday activities and in many cases a cure for the visual dysfunction or condition.
Patients seen in our clinic can expect a very thorough visual system evaluation and treatment plan. This treatment plan can include a therapeutic pair of prescription lenses, individualized in-office therapy plans and home therapy plans. Our in-office therapies can be provided once a week during our vision therapy clinic hours and we ask for home therapies to be completed multiple times a week. As an educational facility we are able to provide these services for a one-time fee of $10.
The NSUOCO vision therapy clinic is located in Tahlequah at our NSU clinic on campus. We accept referrals from all of our university associated clinics and outside optometrists. Referring doctors should call our vision therapy scheduler and fax a copy of the patient’s most recent dilated eye exam.
Students from years III and IV of the clinical curriculum are eligible for assignment into the vision therapy clinic.
