Diabetes Clinic

The diabetes clinic provides eye care to our patients with diabetes. This clinic is located within the Cherokee Nation Outpatient Health Center and provides full eye examinations to patients with diabetes. We attempt to see all our Native American patients who have diabetes for a dilated fundus exam at least yearly, or more often as appropriate for their level of ocular involvement. OCT retinal imaging and retinal photography are frequently performed as indicated. Communication with the Cherokee Nation diabetes management team and the patient’s primary care provider are integral parts of these exams. Referral to retinal subspecialists or other subspecialties is a frequent aspect of this clinic. Students in year IV of their clinical education are available for assignment into this clinic.
